Sixty Years of Remarkable Achievements and Daunting ChallengesMaria De BruynMaria de Bruyn, a medical anthropologist, received an MA degree in West European Studies from Indiana University and an MA in anthropology and development sociology from the Free University in Amsterdam. She worked at the Royal Tropical Institute of the Netherlands from 1989 to 1999 as a policy analyst, researcher, NGO network coordinator and editor of the international newsletter Sexual Health Exchange, on HIV/AIDS and other health issues. She has developed curricula for training young people and youth workers on issues related to gender and sexual and reproductive health and for training health care providers on human rights, the needs and perspectives of adolescents, women living with HIV/AIDS and women subjected to domestic violence. She has consulted for a number of organizations, including WHO,UNFPA, UNAIDS.
